Synanthedon spheciformis ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

A rare species in Belgium, mainly in the Kempen and in the southern part of the country.

The larva bores into the stem of Betula or Alnus. Its development can take up to 2 or 3 years.

The adults fly from mid May till mid June. They are active during daytime.
